There are many ways to make money off software. If you can write code, then you may gain the upper hand, but you can definitely profit off other people’s software. For novices , you can always host a freeware site and make money off the traffic. Or you can host paid software and make money off of software affiliate programs and the like.

If you can write code, or if you have some good ideas, and are able to find a reliable programmer, then there’s even more potential. Freeware can be at many levels – everyone’s looking for free software, so the traffic potential is enormous.  You can distribute free software to tens of thousands of web freeware sites (a great automated way to achieve this), and benefit from the thousands of great backlinks to your site. You can also try a number of bundled pay-per install their own applications. Of course, if your product is useful enough to have enough demand, you can sell a reasonable price. If people are willing to buy your software, you have more opportunities, because you can use PPC and banners (on relevant niche-targeted web site, of course).
